FläktGroup SEMCO Donates 10,000 Aluminum Strips for Face Masks to be Sent to Healthcare Workers

As companies around the United States step up to find ways to assist in the fight against COVID-19, FläktGroup® SEMCOTM has joined in protecting the country’s healthcare workers by providing materials to produce face masks. Plant employees in the company’s Roanoke plant have produced and donated 10,000 aluminum strips to be used in cloth face masks, N99 masks, and N95 masks. These masks will be delivered to the healthcare workers and first responders working on the front lines of Coronavirus pandemic.

These metal strips are essential to the protection of healthcare workers as they are used to custom-fit the top of the mask to the person’s face. This custom fit keeps the wearer safer from harmful particles in the air around them. The strips are being sent to groups and individuals producing the masks which will be distributed to healthcare workers.

FläktGroup SEMCO was notified of this need on April 7th by the Sheet Metal, Air, Rail and Transportation Workers local Union 100. At the time there was a request for 5,000 strips by 43 different individuals in the Washington DC, Maryland and Virginia areas. With the understanding that the need would rise, the FläktGroup SEMCO plant was able to produce and donate 10,000 aluminum strips in one week surpassing the requested amount.

FläktGroup SEMCO is honored to serve alongside the many manufacturers working to protect the nation’s healthcare workers in any way they can.
