Job Summary: The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for creating and maintaining Bills of Material (BOM) and managing design variances to ensure accurate and efficient production processes. This role involves collaborating with design, production, and procurement teams to ensure all components and assemblies are correctly documented and changes are effectively managed.

Key Responsibilities:

Develop and Maintain Bills of Material (BOM):
- Create and manage detailed BOMs for new and existing products.
- Ensure BOM accuracy by verifying component specifications, quantities, and sourcing information.
- Update BOMs to reflect design changes, part substitutions, and process improvements.
Design Variance Management:
- Document and track design variances, including Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) and deviations.
- Coordinate with design and production teams to implement changes and resolve issues.
- Ensure that design variances are communicated effectively across all relevant departments.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with design engineers to understand product specifications and requirements.
- Coordinate with procurement and supply chain teams to ensure timely availability of components.
- Communicate BOM and design variance updates to production and quality assurance teams.
Data Analysis and Reporting:
- Analyze BOM data to identify cost-saving opportunities and potential improvements.
- Generate reports on BOM status, design variances, and related metrics.
- Present findings and recommendations to management and other stakeholders.
Continuous Improvement:
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance BOM accuracy and efficiency.
- Stay updated on industry best practices and emerging technologies in BOM management and design variance control.
- Propose and implement process improvements to streamline BOM and design variance workflows.
Documentation and Compliance:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation for all BOMs and design variances.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards and company policies.
- Assist in audits and quality control checks related to BOM and design variance management.

Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, or a related field.
Experience: Experience in BOM management, engineering change management, or a related role within a manufacturing environment.
Technical Skills: Proficiency in ERP/MRP systems (e.g., Epicor, SAP, Oracle) and CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks).
Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret technical data and make informed decisions.
Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
Organizational Skills: Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Attention to Detail: High level of attention to detail and accuracy.
Certifications: Relevant certifications (e.g., PMP, Six Sigma) are a plus.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to sit for extended periods and use a computer.
Occasional travel to production sites will be required.

Work Environment:

Office setting with occasional exposure to manufacturing environments.

Position Scope:

Layout and piece mark duct drawings and create electronic files containing construction standards and details for fabrication of the duct represented on the drawings.

Major Responsibilities:

1. Review plans, order write-ups, contract documents, and release information to determine proper scope of work provided by SEMCO. Work with Take Off To Build (TOTB) team to determine layout, supply, and manufacturing plans.

2. Must create accurate electronic representations of what is indicated on plans and release documents based on interpretations.

3. Markings on drawings must be accurate to match proprietary software applications.

4. Report discrepancies in processes and plans that will impact order fulfillment. This will involve communications with TOTB team, but also may include Sales, Reps, or contractors/engineers.

5. Electronically fabricated sketches must be detailed correctly to include all pertinent information for shop fabrication.

Major Tasks:

1. Breakdown and piece mark duct shown on contract drawings into components that comply with SEMCO construction standards.

2. Using proprietary software, create electronic files which match SEMCO construction standards and has all the necessary information for fabrication by plant personnel.

3. Using proprietary software, order and release jobs to correspond with fabrication schedules.

4. Utilize CAD software for designing air duct systems.

5. Provide final documentation for SEMCO systems to duct installer inclusive of all instructions and materials.

6. Prepare comparisons of contract drawings with estimated drawings as required.

7. Properly maintain drawings and other electronic files.

8. Investigate customer complaints as needed.

Position Qualifications:

1. Advanced skill in reading and interpreting drawings and blueprints.

2. Experience and exposure to sheet metal work, HVAC, construction, manufacturing, drafting, or welding will be beneficial.

3. High mechanical aptitude and reading comprehension skills.

4. Strong computer systems experience required.

5. Drafting or CAD experience is beneficial for the role.

6. High School Diploma or GED required.

7. Technical school, drafting, or specialized training are beneficial.

Comments:

This position will be based in Columbia, Missouri. 100% remote is not being considered for this role. Compensation will be based on education and experiences.
